Punnett squares are a basic tool in Mendelian genetics used to predict the genetic outcomes of crosses between organisms. In a cross between a heterozygous Bb organism and a homozygous recessive bb organism, the Punnett square predicts a 1:1 ratio of Bb (heterozygous) to bb (homozygous recessive) offspring. Heterozygous BB is not possible as B is dominant over b and BB represents a homozygous dominant genotype.
